Why We Built an In-Pool Lounger That Lasts
After a recent stretch of triple-digit temperatures, I found myself thinking about the reason Las Olas Luxury Living exists in the first place.
Like so many pool owners, I wasn't looking for a statement piece. I wasn't shopping for luxury for luxury's sake. I was simply looking for an in-pool lounger that would let me enjoy the water without committing to swimming laps every afternoon.
What I discovered was surprisingly frustrating.
The Search That Started It All
I wanted a pool ledge lounger that could live on our tanning ledge all summer long.
Simple enough, right?
Instead, every option seemed to come with a compromise.
Some looked beautiful online but faded after months in the sun. Others warped under the relentless summer heat. Many relied on materials that simply weren't designed to withstand years of UV exposure and constant temperature swings.
Then there was the price.
High-end loungers often cost hundreds of dollars each, yet many still left customers replacing them after only a season or two.
Living in Texas, where a week of 100-degree temperatures barely raises an eyebrow, I wanted something built for the real world—not just a catalog photo shoot.
Summer Shouldn't Ruin Your Outdoor Furniture
Outdoor furniture lives a hard life.
It bakes in direct sunlight.
It sits in chlorinated water.
It experiences freezing temperatures in winter and blistering heat in summer.
If those materials aren't engineered for those conditions, they'll eventually show it.
That's why durability became the foundation of everything we designed.
Rather than chasing trends, we focused on creating an in-pool chaise lounge that could stand up to years of real use while maintaining its appearance.
Built for More Than One Summer
One of the biggest design decisions we made was choosing UV-stabilized HDPE rather than lower-cost plastics that are more susceptible to fading, brittleness, and warping over time.
The goal wasn't just to make a beautiful lounger.
The goal was to create one you wouldn't feel compelled to replace after a single season.
Because replacing outdoor furniture every few years isn't sustainable—or economical.
Comfort Matters, Too
Anyone who has spent time on a tanning ledge knows the appeal.
You're cooled by the water while still enjoying the sunshine, whether you're reading a book, watching the kids play, or simply relaxing after work.
The right sun shelf lounger should make those moments effortless.
It shouldn't wobble.
It shouldn't trap heat.
It shouldn't become another thing on your maintenance checklist.
It should simply disappear into the experience.
Why We Started Las Olas Luxury Living
Las Olas wasn't born in a boardroom.
It started with a question:
"Why isn't anyone making the pool lounger I actually want to own?"
So we decided to build it ourselves.
Every decision—from the materials we selected to the manufacturing process we chose—was driven by the idea that outdoor furniture should last, perform beautifully, and still look great after years in the sun.
As another Texas summer begins to wind down, we're reminded why we started this journey in the first place.
Not to create another piece of outdoor furniture.
To create one that people wouldn't have to replace next summer.
